Giant TCR sizing

Hi everyone
Just wondering if anyone had any advice on what frame size they would recommend in the Giant TCR series?

I'm 5'10" with a 31" inside leg so right on the top limit of a Medium frame and bottom limit of a Medium/Large frame.

Went to JE James at the weekend to try one but they were no use whatsoever!
The guy who served me was 2 -3" shorter than me and said he would ride a M/L or a L if he had a Giant and that I would need a 58cm frame if I bought the Specialized i was also looking at.

I currently ride a 54cm GT ZR2 so i'm not sure if he know what he was talking about.
Oh, and before everyone tells me to test ride them - they don't do test rides at JE James apparently! :(

Cheers
Mat

It's all about reach, so check the top tube length with respect to your current bike. I would have thought you were an M or an M/Lb but I'm 5'7'' and ride an S so that's no help at all

I'm a little taller than you with a slightly longer inside leg (5'11 and 32") my M/L TCR3 fits pretty well. I have it set 735mm from the centre of the cranks measuring vertically to a spirit level on the seat, the seat set absolutely level.
With Ultegra 6700 STIs on the standard bar and stem it measures 675mm from the nose of the seat to the hoods.
This set up has been very good on some long rides, like 127 and 200 mile long rides.
    Buy one.

    Im 5" 10 with a 32" inside leg and ride a M/L perfectly.

Also, see if they will put it on a turbo for you if they wont let you go out on it.

I'm 182 cms with a ~88 cm inseam with a 79.6cm BB to saddle top measurement. The M/L is outstanding with a 16cm HT with 1cm of spacers and a 12cm stem. Absolutely golden position, it's like being back in the womb it's so comfortable.

I'd push for a Medium if your upper body allows - remember you can flip the stem and add spacers up to 2.5-3cm to keep the steerer well supported.

What is your BB to saddle top measurement? What is your saddle to bar measurement of your current bike? THIS INFO IS KEY

Well I said before, but it's all about your upper body, get that right aand you're saddle height will be OK. Remember you have a foot of adjustment with the seat pin!
No point taking advice from complete strangers especially when they're not the same size as you!
Are you comfortable on your current bike? Measure it and compare with the new bike, simple! Seriously, compare top tube length and nose of saddle to centre of bars will give you the best idea then check the saddle height looks OK.

I'm 5'10" with 32" inside leg and I think I generally need a medium in Giants. I have a medium Defy (different geometry I know). I was recently looking at new bikes and tried a couple of TCRs for size and the M was a good fit but the ML was a bit big FOR ME, you might find different (ike Gav88)
The effective top tube length is the important measurement rather than seat tube as the others have mentioned.

I am 5' 10" with a 32" inside leg and my medium Giant Defy 2 fits me like a glove.

Cheers for all the advice guys.
Have now had the chance to try both sizes out and have gone for the Medium.
Like most of you said - it was the effective reach that determined which one i went for in the end.
The M/L was too long for me but the M was almost identical to my current steed.

Just waiting for it to come into stock now........ :D

  • I'm the same height and have a barely used M which is for sale if you are interested. It's the white 2010 version.
