Another Wilier sizing question (surely not)...

Hi folks!

First post on Bike Radar so go easy

I'm 5' 7.5" with an inside leg of 29" (the old long body short leg affliction) and I'm about to replace my Allez Sport (Small/52") with a Wilier Izoard, but due to my wonky body shape and the weird Wilier sizing I'm not sure if I should be going for a Small or a Medium.

I'm up in Dundee and as far as I'm aware there's only one dealer in Scotland and that's in Edinburgh, so trying a few out is bit of a problem.

So can any of you Wilier owners give me some advice?

Thanks in advance.

I'm about 5'8 and buy 30 leg trousers, inseam measured properly is about 31.5. I went for a small Izoard, 2010 and it fits me well. Seat is fairly high (9cm above bars) and fitted a 110mm stem, after having a proper bike fitting.

It does depend though, and its a lot of money if the bike doesn't fit. Is there no way to try one, or at least order it from somewhere decent that will let you return it if it doesn't fit?

    Great bike BTW :-)
  • Thanks for the info Canny Jock.

My gut feeling is go small. I've always been happier with a small frame, and with a tweak of the seat and stem there's really no big difference between makes.

I'm buying it from Wheelbase so a swap will be cool if needed. The one problem is that they only have a 2011 Izo in medium and they'll have to order in a small, so I won't be able to try it out until early November. But like a spoiled child I want it now! :D

Can't wait to join the Wilier club ;-)

Is the geometry the same between the 2010 and 2011 versions?
  • I can't find the 2010 specs but the 2011 is:

    S: 52.46 top // 50 down
    M: 53.80 top // 53 down

It seems to be the same then, assuming the angles and head tube length are the same. I'm still wary about saying go for a particular size though, it could be an expensive mistake...

    Geo for the 2010 here:

The issue is that I have longer (normal :D) sized legs for my height, you will have the seat lower so be closer to the bars. If you have a longer body it could feel cramped. What top tube length is your Allez?

Ok I have the Izoard Centaur 2010 in a medium - fantastic bike!

Sizng wise I am 1.75m tall with an inside leg of 83cm measured hard to crotch, I run the bike with a 120mm stem on it and it fits me like a glove with about 12cm ish of seatpost out. The Medium did feel cramped to me with a 100mm stem on it. The tt is short on the Wilier hence the longer stems.

Hard to say really but I would probably say go with a S and put a 120 or even a 130mm stem on it!
