My K2 Duchess is dying :( I need a new toy for my xmas mountain adventures....

I want this http://k2snowboarding.com/snowboards/gb-pop-ltd

Any of my stalkers want to buy it me? I need a decent board to go kick the boys a$$es on my next instructor course, when I can get time off work when it is running!

And oh yes, I now have 4 jobs......3 of which involve teaching people to fall of snowboards, I am going to DIE this winter!

Good enough for Mr Rice, good enough for me. Now only if it made me half or a quarter as good as he is, i'd be well chuffed!

I am looking at the GB pop in my link ^^

Depends what you want it for I guess, all boards do everything but don't do everything well. Bataleon TBT has a great following, but if you don't want to live solely for the park you might want to try a Goliath? Or maybe check out some of the Salomon, Yes or K2 boards?

That's a pretty stiff board, I know people who love and hate it! Great if you can handle it and are a big mountain rider, maybe not so good for other purposes.... Try before you buy :)

oh yeah, somehow didn't manage to spot that link. very nice.

i already have a burton custom (yes, i know, burton are the spesh of the snowboard world) which does most things well but wanted a dedicated shorter freestyle board for non-powder days. powder days are few and far between and my freestyle skills have been progressing well in the last couple of years.

the problem is i don't ride enough (1 or 2 weeks a year) so was thinking a bataleon may be more forgiving when i get my landings wrong?

The problem with freestyle boards is that they are unstable at speed. Try the goliath its an all mountain freestyle board so will not be too stiff yet will be more stable....and you still get your bataleon tbt!

hmmmm, maybe. i can probably live with unstability at speed with this board, it's a play board not a cruiser.

Heh yeah I realise that. tbh I wouldn't buy it myself but I'd have one if they were being handed out if you know what I mean.

Probably due a new board myself this year cant decide on what to get though. Not even got a short list yet, soo many new manufacturers since I last looked properly.

    EDIT:

Carrying on from that i've just been having a wee look at the TSA/Ellis Brigham website.

Anybody know what's what with the following brands:
    Weekend
    Cipher
    Dinosaurs will Die.

anyone any experience with their boards hows the quality etc?

oh and my ex rode a mens board.
she had size 8 feet and in boots wouldnt fit on a womans board :D

    Flow :?
You have gone down in my estimations

I'm fine with my girly boards, I have size 7 feet but they fit a womens board and mens boards are often too wide and too stiff, I ride a stiff womens board and thats still got more flex than a lot of guys freestyle boards. Although my park board IS a noodle!

i bought the flows coz they looked mint and matched my board perfectly.
and within a ride or 2 i wished i hadnt.

(i'll go down more for this) ive always ridden step ins and loved em on short uk runs where you r in and out of the bindings all the time.
then once i was working in the alps the flows seemed to offer the best of both worlds.

but they were no quicker than free styles really, plus they clogged/packed down with snow.

love the k2 jobbies tho, they seem to work really well.

+1, flow  i got the wife got some k2 cinch last year and they're waaayyyy better. she also rides a mens board (rome anthem) but is 5' 10" and rides piste and pow better than most men. better than me that's for sure. different kettle of fish when it comes to freestyle though

    All the gear..........no idea haha

I have some K2 autos for indoor/ teaching (I have 3 instructor jobs now eep) and they are great for that but they are not back opening. Just one rachet for ankle/toe.

I have some normal Rome bindings for my all mountain board.

I can honestly say I do not have any of my kit becasue it looks pretty....well except for outerwear!

the k2 cinch with the back opening are excellent but i still don't see that they save that much time over standard rachets. the missus thinks different (as usual)

Quick in/out for teaching but are really responsive. I was hesitant but I get BIIIIG discounts so I thought what the hell and I'm honestly impressed. As for longevity I cannot comment, ask me in a year! http://k2snowboarding.com/bindings/agogo

i know, i always get that reaction.

but i got some cheap ones second hand when first starting out and loved em.
then found a new set of northwave boots with highback step ins, brand new, when in canada for 100CAD or £50! in sterling, an offer too good to miss, so i bought them.

and like i said for the uk, where the longest run lasts 30 seconds at the most they are ideal.

Quick catch up with this thread

My missus rides a mens board (Burton Custom '07) I don't think chicks riding men's snowboards is that strange, is it?

I'm not overly sold on the whole foot in the back type bindings but each to their own.

and as for the skiers v snowboarders debate as far as I'm concerned there is none. It's more of a generation gap thing. ie older folks (who are usually skiers) likely found cruising the piste attempting to put in perfect turns and younger snowboarders/freeski types who charge around looking for something different to do, off piste or to get to the park!

Either way as a snowboarder I actually tend to think that kicker tricks look "sicker" on skis than on a board.

Also I've tried abit of skiing and I actually quite like it! 8)

Definitely agree that these days there is no longer a ski-boarder split/rivalry like there used to be. I'm primariliy a boarder but have always ridden with a mixed group of skiers and boarders. In fact I'd go as far as to say that apart from the park - having skiers around is essential for the best days riding - very hand for a tow or push on the flat spots and can also chuck you a pole if needed from time to time. Skiers have excellent mobility in comparison to a boarder and this is also useful in the backcountry.

I have been boarding since 1992 but only learned to ski a couple of season back. At the moment I'm saving skiing for days when I'm cruising round with my wife and boarder/skier mates who are not into the more 'serious' scene when it comes to terrain. Having said that I've loved the skiing I've done so far. Cracked parallel turns on day one and by day two had already blown past the top speeds I had ever managed on a board.

Sking and boarding are essentially the same sports and I think this is why the transition is not too tricky - both sports are about body position, feel, and edge control. Helps that my best mate is a ski instructor of course and 3 straight full days of one on one tuition goes a long way. :)
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.
