Pocket Cameras and mounting

I was going to splash out on a pocket camera as all the helmet cameras (eg GoPro Hero) that are HD seem to be 250 quid whereas a Kodak Zi8 or Flip Ultra HD are less than 100 quid.
Any advice on this or even if mounts are available? Helmet / bar / chest mounts? Or DIY mounts?

you can get bar mounts which take a normal camera screw fitting. I've got a VadoHD and it can be mounted by a bar mount i got for a few ££ on ebay.
Depends on how serious you are about getting footage - cheap cams will work but theres a good reason a lot of people have made GoPro range so popular0 -
Yeah, dont get me wrong the GoPro is absolutely brilliant but i cant justify the £250 price tag. I am pretty impressed by the Kodak Zi8 though. The footage on that is 1080p and from vids i have seen works well at speed.
Thanks for the pointer on the bar mount, i will have a look.0 -
M8 bolt a couple of nuts and a 22mm pipe clip is all you need. A bit velcro for added security is good too.0

how does that work? Im always up for a bit of DIY. Where do the bolts go etc?0

You may want to consider the Kodak Playsport instead (~£100). Its HD and waterproof down to 10 feet of water as well - OK, thats pretty extreme MTB'ing but might be great fun on holiday.
The quality looks OK from what I've seen. I have a Flip and not that impressed with the build or picture quality, although its not HD. The fact the Playsport is waterproof is the biggest bonus. Apparently also has a standard 1/4" tripod mount. You can buy bike mounts for cameras quite cheaply.
I've asked the wife to get me a Playsport for Xmas. All of these things....0 -
take a standard plastic 22mm pipe clip and drill out the hole to take the m8 bolt. Thread the M8 bolt through the clip, so that bolt head is recessed in the clip and the tail sticks though. washer and a nut to tighten.
add another nut and a large washer + a bit of inner tube and screw the tail of the M8 into the bottom of your camera and tighten with the second nut.
Snap the pipe clip on to your bars near the controls. Add cable ties, velcro etc for extra security. I have also don the same with a reflector mount, which is more secure.0
