marzocchi 55r fork travel

i want to change my forks to 140mm from the stated 160mm (when i bought them second hand). i want to know is there a way of telling without stripping them down.

i have found the link on how to do this. i have measured the stantions from seals to crown and they measure 158mm. Does this mean they are already set to 140mm or are they set at 160mm? Reason i ask is my old jusys are set to 100mm and they atre showing 124mm of stantion.

Can anyone shed some light for me please????

    This sounds insane, but your 55s might have shrunk. Mine did it all the time, even when just left to their own devices in the garage overnight. They also did it halfway down the Pleney run, leaving me with 0mm of front travel.

    so i guess the only way to tell is to take it apart and see where the spacer is then???

    Well, going from my experience, just wishing they'd work is enough to reduce the travel.
