Winter bike

I usually use an old MTB during the winter but fancy a roadie. I don't want to spend too much, probably about £300. Any advice.
Also can anyone recommend any second hand sites and what was their experience?

£300 ain't gonna get you much and buying second hand has its risks.
I hit the idea of having a second bike for winter on the head ages ago. In particular, I disliked maintaining two bikes.
That's £300 quid you could spend on some first rate winter clothing, like some of those shoes that have magnets and as the wheels of your bike spin they generate an electric current that warms up your feet!0 -
£300 will get you a decent used road bike. Keep an eye on the classifieds here as generally people are honest about what they're selling so less chance that you'll buy a lemon.More problems but still living....0

Second Amaferanga. You can get a decent 531 or better second hand bike for under £300, if you shop around. I have always run a winter bike / audax bike, with mudguards. In the long run, it keeps your top end parts on your best bike in A1 condition, especially if you run dura ace/ chorus etc, and will keeps the parts on your winter bike in good working order too. You also need mudguards if you are riding in a group. Also try CTC for sale, small adds. If you get a bike with a good frame, you can always upgrade the wheels, and a steel bike with good wheels will last you for many many years.0
