Got a set of seal skins for the real ugly days but wanted some everyday socks all seasons except summer. Any recommendations please as there are so many to choose from?

+1 for DeFeet, especially in the Woolie Boolie variety keep your feet warm, even when wet - nice for wearing round the house too!0

We use Bridgedale Trekker walking socks.
really comfortable, warm in winter, not too hot in summer and nice and soft!
Have got quite a few pairs and only trashed 1 sock in last 2 years! (think the dog was involved!)Wheeze..... Gasp..... Ruddy hills.......0 -
Endura Baabaas are lightweight for merino but cheap, pretty nice as everyday socks. Woolie Boolies are nice for colder days.Uncompromising extremist0

Any socks will do providing they are black0

I'm a self-confessed sockaholic, and have currently got DeFeet Woolie-Boolies, Icebreaker Merino Biking (& walking variety), Endura Thermolite and Assos Winter Plus.
The ones I tend to wear most are the Woolie Boolies - great socks, just as people above have said. For me, they seem to cover a good temperature range, and the height of the ankle 'cuff' is just right.
The Icebreakers have a slightly more luxurious feel, but the ankle coverage of the biking sock is lower than the Woolie Boolies.
For really cold weather the Endura Thermolites are good (& cheap), but they're 100% man-made and I find them a bit sweaty feeling compared to wool socks.
Finally, the Assos Winter Plus. I was bought these as an Xmas pressie (I'd asked for some decnt winter cycling socks). TBH, when I opened 'em, I was disappointed, because they look like 'normal' sock thickness - and thought they'd be rubbish. However, in use they are bloomin' brilliant, & well worth the extra couple of quid if you suffer from cold feet. Def. my fave for real cold rides.0 -

There's only 2 times I'd ever discuss socks:
1) On the internet, trying to choose the best socks for riding and
2) Up a hill in the snow after breaking through a crust of ice into a near-zero-degree puddle, at which point I like to say "Luckily I have the best socks for riding"Uncompromising extremist0 -
Seems far to sensible BUT the SealSkinz socks you have now....0

But they're just socks. What makes any sock ideal for one thing over another? Apart from say, Sealskins waterproof socks which obviously fill a specific need.0

Get wet feet in cotton socks then in woolen socks (particularily merino) and you know the answer to this. No different to tshirts vs riding jerseys.Uncompromising extremist0 -
Just buy all your socks the same then. Why buy normal "inferior" socks, then also buy a specific set for when your feet get wet.0

Woolie Boolies cost a tenner each. Wilsons cotton sports socks cost a fiver for 6. Hence, good socks for cycling but not for the rest of the time.Uncompromising extremist0

I just chuck my riding gear in the wash and doing this with the seal skins kills them so wanted some easy care socks
Thanks for the replys, given me some good options. Funny thing is when I search on Google for the socks this thread comes up.0 -

Look at yourselves, you're discussing socks for god's sake.
What they both said, actually I hate myself a bit for even looking at the topic.0 -
