Candy Bros Candy C spring failure

On a fairly routine 50 mile trip into the Pennines this weekend, my right foot pops out of the pedal. I initially thought I'd pulled out of the clip, but the cleat wouldn't re-engage so stopped at the road side to discover that the spring on the drive side pdeal had snapped! This means the clet does not clip in to the pedal, and renders the pedal an expensive paperweight!

This meant I had to walk to the nearest station and endure a 40 minute train journey back home.

Question is, has anyone else experienced this, and did you have any joy with Crank Bros warranty claim for a replacement set of pedals?

I personally don't own any CB pedals but the broken spring seems to be fairly common with some models. I've heard mixed reviews of their customer service so best to contact them and see what happens and I would hope that they take care of you properly. They have supposedly beefed up all of the newest versions of their pedals but I haven't heard any feedback on them yet.

How old are the pedals? You can get the older Candys reduced at the moment. FWIW I have a pair of Candys and a pair of Quattros - no problems as yet.

I had exactly the same thing happen THREE times - on a set of Candy's, Candy SL's & Acid II's ...

First time I thought was just bad luck.
2nd time started me thinking it must be a design fault.
3rd time, pedals were cheap from a mate (almost new), couldn't believe they broke too.

Would now never consider Crank Bros predals again, nor recommend them to anyone.

Been using Shimano SPD's ever since ...

You could go for Time ATACs. Generally regarded as one of the best off-road pedals out there.

Thanks for your input - just to clarify, this occured on a road ride on a road bike (Bianchi Via Nirone 7) and using Shimano R076 shoes.

I've heard back from the UK distributor, who seem willing to help - although they have asked for proof of purchase, who keeps receipts for 18 months!?!
