  • If you live in a built up area, then approximately as tall as a 4yr old giraffe.

In rural areas, it's the height of 30 honey badgers standing one on top of the other.

    Hope that helps.
  • Cheers guys,

With a distinct lack of badgers and giraffes in my area i'll take a look at Holyzues's link. :D

I have an even simpler method for confusing people (although I'm not actually stringing them on, technically).
    I often get asked
    "How loud was that mix"
And I give them a simple number. "four".

"Eh? How much louder is than that the song before?"
    "two"

I'm being honest, but most people don't actually understand what they're asking, let alone the answer, so why bother going into specifics?

That explains why musicians are always bitching about the sound engineer...

Nah, musicians don't care how loud things are, as long as they are loud. It's usually directors, or some other self-appointed "person in charge" that asks stupid questions they don't understand.

By the way, where the hell did "if you live in a built" come from?

Excellent! I've done that many times "You're at least 2 too loud!"
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

  • Didn't read all of the above but;

For some info on building regulations, have a look on the planning portal, good info and advice + you can download the approved documents that building control (inspectors) will work against too.

For heights of chimeys in relation to existing buildings, best advice I can offer is to try and talk to one of your local planning officers - just give the council planning department a call - it depeda of what type of chimney and use I suppose (I am presuming a house?) Every situation will differ, for example on a scheme recently we had a 10m high chimney above ridge line close to a residential area.

    hope this may help!
