Given the mud and grit I frequently ride through, I am replacing my chain, chainrings and cassette on a reqular basis. I don't know what to do with all this metal. Does anyone have any good ideas as to options for recycling / disposal ?

could make a chain whip with the chain if you don't have one.

as for recycling - either down the tip in the metal skip or maybe to your local art college who could use them for sculptures etc.

Or freecycle them - someone may want them for something arty or to make a chain whip.

I stick em in the petrol scrap bin at work, that's usually filled with mowers, chain saws, hedge cutter, brush cutters...

  • my lbs has a massive pile that they sell to the pikeys every couple of months, they normally weigh in what they can so depends on how much youve got weight wise, could a trip to your local scrap merchants!!

Thanks for all the feedback. I will check the LBS. And the local waste management facility to see if there is metal collection.

I would give my scrap chains to the pikeys after first wrapping them around a stick of dynamite

Nope, it says 'cans' on it, doesn't specify what metal so all types of cans go in it, be it steel or aluminium.
