I have a Sram Force groupset and lately I hae been getting some slippage on the cassette. It appears to be happening in the smallest 3/4 cogs in both the chainrings. It is not juming out of gear, just seems to be slipping in the cassette ring,

Could this mean i need a new chain? is the freehub gone (how do i test this?) All of the gears have just been set up and are changing smoothly i just get this intermittent slippage as i said in the bottom 4 cassette cogs.

any help would be appreciated

cheers

    Measure the chain to see.

Get a 12" ruler and measure the length of 24 links with the chain on the bike.

It should be 12" on a new chain. 12 1/16" means new chain time. If it's up to 12 1/8th then it's very far gone and it's probably new chain and cassette.

Also look at the teeth on the cassette - are they flat on top or have they been filed into points (and are therefore fir for the bin)?

  • chain and cassette are relaively new. i will check the spacings but should be ok. i'm leaning towards the freehub i think, just not sure if there is a way of checking it. doesn't happen when there is no pressure on it, i.e. in a workstand
  • Newly set up equipment may 'bed in' and need re-adjusting to get it back to working perfectly. Look for cable adjuster screw.
