My wife (not normally prone to hysteria or fantasy) swears blind she saw a wild boar run across the road while she was cycling through Epping Forest.

I know they are in Kent but are there boar up here too?

  • Two possibilities I can think of:

    1) Your wife got abducted by aliens and when they wiped her memory ready for the return to Earth, it temporarily left her mind in a state of hyper-suggestibility. It was probably only a rabbit. But a very special rabbit.

    2) It was a boar running across the road.
  • Aren't they meant to uncompromisingly tenacious and defend their territory with all vigour often attacking the genitals.....not sure what the boar's like though
The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns
momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.

Oh, I thought Cleat was talking about the rabbit...

On a more serious note, it's not impossible that it was a boar, just very surprising. It wouldn't have been a native boar, because I'm pretty sure they all got eradicated. But there are a few that are raised for meat. I'm sure I remember there having been a boar problem somewhere in the West Country where boar had been set free.

Very possibly. I have seen far more obscure beasts in that forest ....

One was reported in West Hanningfield in 1997, and several in the Tiptree area the year before, according to this:
