Hi,

I am looking for a set of 700c wheels for a bike frame that I want to use for commuting, I dont want to spend a lot of money on them (secondhand will do). The rear spacing is 135mm, I was just going to use a spacer and redish wheel if i had to use a 130mm wheel.

After watching a lot of wheel sets on ebay even cheaper sets seem to end around £40 and when you include post costs it starts to add up.

http://www.parkersofbolton.co.uk/p-2203-700c-x-pert-x-4-race-89-spd-qr-black-wheelset.aspx I found these and after seeing the cost of secondhand ones they seem to be a bargin. only issue I have is the website says rim size is 20mm and will fit tyres 20c to 28c (this is the range of tyres i want to use) but on http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html he says that with a rim size of 20mm i should be looking at tyres of 32c/35c+.

Could the website be listing the wrong rim size? Maybe the outer rim? does this happen often?

Or does anybody know of any wheels that are better, simular or cheaper?

Thanks for any help.

hmm this post seems an awful lot like jonnyrau?? from lfgss who buys cheap wheels puts it on a bike then flogs for a sizeable profit.. (The lad took wheels from a charity to do this previously)

    might be worth checking out

  • i can assure you thats not me, i had to google lfgss to find out what that was :? (and i am in norfolk not london).

i only want to buy a set of wheels not sell them. i am just asking a question and looking for some answers, nothing dodgy going on here. :)

I have a set for sale - they Have Tubular tyres on them and a 7 speed cassette.....

105 hubs with Rigida rims - Tubs only!
  • Thanks for the offer but as they are for commuting i would perfer Clincher's. My understanding is that they are easier to fix a puncture with?

I guess by "tubs only" that means they wont take clincher tyres?

Nah, bit of googling points to those rims being 28 and up

  • just had an email back from the shop and they said that its 20mm external rim so i would guess that makes them about 15mmish internal which would make the tyre selection about right.
