2010 Trance X2 or X3?

My better half has given me permission to get a new bike
I was looking at getting a 2010 Trance X3 in the sales. But I have seen a 2010 Trance X2 which is not that much more. My wife is taking the line of 'you won't be getting another bike for a long time so if you need to spend a bit more then do!'.
But is there a major difference, and is it worth spending the extra cash? From what I can tell the only difference is the X2 is 1lb lighter and has XT?

I think I'm leaning towards the X3 as it will save me a bit of cash and there is not a huge step up on the X2. I can upgrade some of it going forward anyway.
I have done a lot of research and been really torn between an Anthem or a Trance. I think the Trance is best suited to my riding. I'm not a XC whippet, though I do enjoy XC type trails, and ride a lot at Swinley. I don't mind going uphill and the Trance will do that just fine. I also enjoy coming down, but nothing jumpy. I reckon the Anthem will be a little too racey for me.Blogging about junior road bikes http://junior-road-bikes.tumblr.com0 -
Have you got links to the exact models and prices?0

2010 Trance X3 is awesome. There is nothing I need to upgrade on mine other than the (bent) rear mech.
Light enough for XC riding. Tough, fast & fun for trail riding.
Meastro suspension is very, very good.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -
The Giant website coveniently lists the upgrades from X3 to X2 and they are:
Key Upgrades (from Trance X3):
Fox 32 F120RL, 120mm suspension fork w/ 15QR thru-axle, Fox Float RP2 rear shock
Shimano Deore XT shifting, Avid Elixir 5 hydraulic disc brakes
Giant Connect SL handlebar, stem and seat post
WTB LaserDisc Trail rim/Giant Tracker hub/WTB hub/DT Competition spokes, wheel set
There's not much jump from X3 to X2 so unless you're getting a bargain on the X2, I'd go for the X3. Plus it's a nicer colour!!Giant Trance X 2010

Looks like the major upgrades are the suspension which just basically adds front & rear lock outs, my X3 has no lock out & to be honest I have never needed it, the meastro suspension is very good & doesn't move when pedalling. I have got the Giant Connect SL components on my 2010 Trance and they are no better than Easton EA50 kit which is cheap enough. Elixir 5 brakes might be nice though the Juicy 3's on the X3 are pretty good, plenty of power & nice feel.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

Thanks everyone
I think the X3 is the one as there is not that much difference over the X2.Blogging about junior road bikes http://junior-road-bikes.tumblr.com0 -
