Changing an Octalink BB to a Cupped BB?

Need to replace my old dura-ace cranks which are currently on an Octalink BB. Are there any compatibility issues with changing the BB to one with Cups so I can fit a new Ultegra 6700 chain set? Currently a nine speed, will the chain be sufficient?

The bike is a 2007 Lemond Reno. I assume this will be an English thread?

Any clarification would be appreciated

BB threads will be English - there are no compatibility issues and provided you don't increase your chainring size, chainlength should be OK, but do get chain checked for wear and replace if necessary.

    Thanks

Does a new chain mean new cassette? I heard this is the case, otherwise the gears will jump.

Not necessarily; if you change the chain before it is too worn out you will most likely get through 3 chains before the cassette needs changing - in any event, you can fit the chain and if it doesn't skip then all's well, if it does, then buy the cassette.

I agree - I work on 3-4 chains / cassette and replace chainrings when they start getting pointy, but a new chainset usually comes before that.
