Hi ladies

Ive not been on this in a seriously long time!

I was wondering if any of you did some DH riding? I do a little but I'm a bit rubbish and would love a girl to ride with as I find I ride better with other girls. I find I get left behind when riding with boys as I'm not up to scratch with them.

    Hey

I live in the north west, but there is nothing up here so I tend to travel around to ride.

  • Hi, I'm getting tempted by DH - not done any yet, but went to Cwmcarn on Tuesday and fancied the look of the uplift. I'm gonna book myself in sometime soon to have a go. Not got a DH bike and my pace will defo be slow, but I'm up for giving it a try :D . I figured that I'd let the guys go first, then trundle down after them... If it works like that?!

So, once I've had a go (and like it), maybe we could meet up somewhere and go for a ride?

Yeah that would be cool. It's deffo easier if you go last, means there is no pressure from people behind you :)

  • That's what I'll do then :D I'll get myself booked in, then there will be no turning back!

Hi there, I'd love to get in to it a bit more I've been down some DH tracks in alps this summer which was great but had a go at some in my local area (N.Wales) but it was a disaster, tooo difficult with massive gap jumps, only just got down on my bum hanging on to tree branches and my bike... had I ridden I reckon I'd be dead by now!!!! :( . So, a bit put off after that.
Anyway, which DH tracks do you ride and what bike have you got? I reckon my Orange 5 pro will need a bigger rotor on the back and then may be ok..?
Would love to meet up with you and any other girlies, just not if you go to Foel Gasnach (where I nearly met my end!!!).

Oh my, Foel is so hard! I've been there a few times but it's a bit much for me, I usually freak out and fall all over the place. I like to go to Hopton and I've been to Moelfre once. I went to whistler for a summer but that's completely different from what's here!

I've got a little orange patriot with single crown forks, so it's not hardcore. Hopton is a great place to go, it's in staffordshire I think, it's a long walk up but you can session bits and it's not too steep.

Let me know when you're next doing some DH and I'll see about getting there :)

  • hi love DH :D but haven't done any specific but like sarah love gnarl technical stuff. Sometimes wish wasn't in Isle of Man as no chance of joining you guys

Ah, that sounds so good, I'm jealous!

  • Oh god, I've gone and booked myself in tomorrow... Now I'm worried

Gone and got myself a fullface to help with the confidence issues - Lets hope it doesn't all end in disaster!
  • Phew, well I made it through a good few runs at Cwmcarn. The first run, I went down the slightly harder part which wasn't much fun, then I found out the other way was easier and had a great time from there on! I made sure I was last to go at the top so that I didn't get in the way of the guys.. All guys by the way and all faster than me

I avoided some of the harder parts at first, but as the day went on, I found myself riding them and gaining confidence. I was getting so tired though, my arms were killing me and my brakes were losing power, so I called it a day before I had a serious accident

I'll be booking myself in again soon and I may also try sessioning a few of the harder bits to gain more confidence. I'm not very fit and I think that is partly why I enjoyed it so much. Normally on an XC route, by the time I get to the downs, I'm too tired to try any jumps, but being full of energy, I was able to really take on jumps etc. (not very big, but more than normal). I don't think I'm ready for anything harder than the red DH at Cwmcarn yet though, but if anyone fancies meeting up there, I'll be up for it!

Sounds awesome! Well done, I'm gutted it's too far from me

  • i thought i'd love dh'ing because i love technical all the descents around the Peak ( my local ) , lakes and black trail centre runs.

However after going to Wharncliffe a few times and Les Arcs in the Alps for the last 2 years i've come to realise that i love downhilling as long as its not steep !

wish i could get better and not be such a wimp when the angles change.

nice one to all you girls who keep it real though. im in awe.

    DJ!
Get back on it girl you used to be all good!
I reckon we need to organise a girls uplift day, maybe Cwmcarn or Forest of Dean and get rid of some of those demons!
Both of those places have relatively easy tracks and are great for gaining confidence on!
    Are you still DJ-ing?

    SJ! How are you doing?!

I'd love to do an uplift day somewhere, but I do not dj anymore, I've only really got the patriot.

Excellent! Well I'll keep you in the loop about any uplifts I'm planning with the girls and you can join us if you like?!

Haha! At work, I sat opposite a Spanish girl and in front of a French one! Needs changing now though, I've moved desks!

    Hey DJIP,

I'm really wanting to start riding some downhill, love riding rocky descents in the lakes but have never ventured properly onto a DH track.
I'm based up in Lancaster so if you ever want to go hit up somewhere in the North West i'd be well up for it!
Have you checked out the Gisburn DH track?

Its a really sweet place to ride, its in North-East Lancashire. They're doing a lot of building up there at the moment and have a really nice red-loop trail, a small DH track and i think they're developing a small freeride track with some jumps etc..

Check out their FB group, its probably the best place to see whats going on. Hopefully the link works... otherwise search for 'Gisburn Forest MTB Trail Development.'
