Just been out for a 'proper' spin on my new FP2 - downhill cornering and straight line responsiveness - in comparison to my Boardman Team - its unbelievable - anyone who tells you upgraded kit makes no difference is wrong!!!!

I used to like the SRAM but the 105 stuff is soooo smooth in comparison :)

Must get fitter, must get fitter, must get fitter......

I prefer my Wilier to the dogma I had a blast on.

    105 smoother than SRAM? Behave!!

I changed the standard Shimano 105 cassette on my Boardman for an SRAM Force 1070 and can't believe how much smoother, quieter and slicker it is.

Glad you like your Pinarello but it has the same cassette as your Boardman did. Only the Mechs and shifters are SRAM.

I use 105 and love it,
  • I thought the 105 was equivalent to the Rival on the Team Boardman - must be the difference between new 105 and well used rival that I can feel.

Steven and the twins suffered a little - maybe I'll swap the saddles and see if that helps.....

    Shimano is smoother than SRAM.

It's a much softer action, SRAM is fairly agricultural and clunky. Depends what you prefer. SRAM did my nut in.

Braking is better on sram but I think mainly as they come with swissstop pads. Shimano pads are crap in comparison.

Did you get the new 5700 105?
  • No the bike was a 2010 offer model so it has last years 105 levers etc - would have liked to wait but couldn't justify the extra cost for a full price 2011 :(

Downhill in the Fens - Have you never heard of the famous Gedney Hill?

Is it famous because it's the only incline?

Watch out for that left hand shifter fail then.

Years ago on the top of a Munro I met two climbers from Norwich, they boasted about having climbed every 90m "peak" in southern England......

I have 105 (9 speed) and think it's great. Not tried SRAM though.

downhill cornering and straight line responsiveness

What's straight line responsiveness? You mean it goes in a straight line better than the Boardman?

Just a thought, did you have the aluminium Team or the Carbon?

  • NapD - Got it in one!! For all of you that think the fens are flat - put an X on the place that you think is the middle of the fens. Draw a circle with a radius of 50 Miles - find any hills? (Remember hill is a relative term) Good glad we've cleared that up!!

Straight line responsiveness - accelerates better for the same level of input as the Boardman when riding in a straight line (IMHO) (some of the roads round here are straight for miles.....straight being a relaive term and all)

My Boardman is the aluminium team - It wasn't meant to be a rant at Boarnman owners (remember I still own one) - just some observations, and a sharing of that little frisson of excitement you get when riding a new bike for the first time!!!

My wifes just told me we don't have enough bikes in the garage :D

I got that you weren't putting your Boardy down but was just curious as the ali Boardy and Panny are almost identical weights. That said, I suspect the wheels on your new bike will be much lighter than your Ritcheys and this may be some of what you have felt.

Centripedal acceleration of wheel weight is a huge factor in bike feel.

FP2 is a stunning bike. Glad you are enjoying it :)
