Got Aksium and low end Ksyriums for my training bike - never had an issue. Handbuilts on the best bike.
I'd probably go for Ksyrium SL's or SR's rather than R-Sys

R-Sys is a gimmick. Light - yes. Aero - no. Risky - yes.
I owned a set but got rid.
However - my Cosmic SLR's were awesome and I used them as everyday wheels for quite a while.0 -
The older Aksiums (ones with the annoying wear indicators on the outside) are good, proper bomb proof, I've proper battered em and they're fine.
The new ones however are not as good, the spokes seem to twist and they make funny noises,0 -
So far the front one has not gone out of true on mine, but it does make lots of noise. Apparently it's to do with the sort of spokes, before they were a sort that were unable to twist, but the new ones are just straight pull.0

RSys are the bet shallow clinchers I've tried. Mega stiff yet verrrrrry smooth. Didn't notice a problem with aero a I was on group rides. If they weren't so freaking expensive I'd have a pair.0

Gimmick? Garmin and Liquigas run them so for a Pro Tour team to be running them doubt you can call them a gimmick. Risky? For why?
I have had a set of 2010 Premiums for about 3 months now.
Have done about 900 miles on them now and cannot praise them highly enough.
Light, strong and purr along. The first set of wheels I have owned the actually improved my riding. Climbing with them is a pleasure and downhill they track lovely. They have a couple of knocks as well and been fine.
Only downside are the crap skewers. My developed the dreaded Mavic rattle so swapped out for One23 Ti/carbon set. Much lighter than the 97g Mavics and no rattle.
There are some videos on You Tube showing the strength of the new carbon spokes.0 -

This is why (and these were POST-recall wheels):
This is why I sold mine.0 -

Granted, The original wheels used hollow unidirectional carbon fiber spokes that were apparently vulnerable to shattering upon impact with something (pedal, foot, etc.). The new version uses unidirection carbon fiber wrapped with angled fiber, sandwiching kevlar fibers intended to keep the spokes in one piece in the event of failure.
Could something else have attributed to this accident?
Here is Mavis response to said wheel above. HERE
I read the response when it came out. But it was written by lawyers. What did you expect them to say?
I'm not implying the wheels will fail but they are at a greater risk than a normal wheel and have less benefits than risks IMO. And like I said - I owned a set for a good long while. I had broken spokes but no catastrophic failures.
I'd personally rather have a good set of spoked wheels over the R-Sys wheels.
To each their own.0 -

This from someone who just bought Bora 2's?????
Anyhoo, I'm curious. I was interested in these and asked LBS about them. He advised against, because, and I quote, "nice wheels, but lateral stiffness is crap" and recommended Fulcrums instead.
So, are they stiff, or not?Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
WTF?!? They are the stiiffest (laterally) clinchers I've ever used!!0

Hmm, might have to borrow some and try then.
Not like my LBS is against Mavic either. I've bought some off him before, and he sells bucketloads of the current wheel-du-jour, the Cosmic Carbone SL..Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
All the reviews say they are indeed stiff. Just s-l-o-w.
FWIW - I paid £600 for mine and sold they a year later for £500 (although with a new front wheel). I was one of the first people to own them (lots of people would ask me about them).

Here are the updated versions on my Canyon.
The updated versions are far stronger than the first editions:

I would never buy a set of wheels called A R S E S-- Dirk Hofman Motorhomes --0

My avg speed increased by several MPH on the same training loop when I changed wheels. Scary.0

ive had about 15 sets of mavic wheels, askiums, sometimes the spokes rotated, i found best results with mavic equipes, to prove how tough these were i used a pair for 24 months, and did over 25,000 miles on the, when the failed the rear rim wore and cracked on the braking surface, but they had done 2 winters in salt, ice, shite etc, and the last winter they never got cleaned, i weigh about 100 kgs, i ve had a pair of cosmics , they were very fast, but i wouldnt trust carbon spoked wheels, the risks are just too great,0

Can you wait until Jan when the Mavic Ksyrium SLRs are out?
Edit -
Just seen that they are out!
