As I agonise over the options for my next shiny new bike memories of my last sportive return, and the groups and individuals I couldn't catch or keep up with.
The riders that disappeared before I knew what was happening.
The group that rode dull bikes with full mudguards.
The guy on the ancient all-steel fixed gear bike.

I am a loner and have never much liked going at the same speed as other cyclists. Maybe this stems from an old guy blowing his snot over me on a clubrun in approx 1982.0
