Winter tyres...?

I've been riding on 23mm Conti Ultra Gatorskins for over a year now, even raced on them without a single p*ncture.
Now thinking I need to replace them, as they're getting a little worn, so the big question...

Is there anything better out there now, maybe in a 25mm?

Are you familiar with the search function on this forum?... It's not the best, mate!
I did just go back 7 days and found only one post! The other 72 seem to have disappeared.

Nasty. Anyway I have the said tyres and rode on them for a month last winter and got a punct=re. Ive just put them back on but I am wondering if 4 seasons would be better? Im not clear what the difference is. I visited the Conti stand at the bike show to ask and all the staff were laying around on the floor eating Chinese take away, not very German I thought. Anyway I didn,t feel like disturbing them.

I saw the stand, but didn't ask, as they're going to tell you that their tyres are all you're looking for.
Thought I'd ask the forum, but didn't bank on Chip seeing his a*se!

OK maybe my post was over the top and I apologise. But I seem to typing out the words 'Schwalbe' quite a lot at the moment!

I've always found Conti's to be very skittish in the wet and went on to try Schwalbe's and I'm very happy with them. The Ultremo is probably (IMO) the best race clinchers out there and the Blizzard is a superb winter tyre, very robust and very grippy but a tad slow. I used Blizzards last winter but this year I might try the next tyre up - the Durano.

No probs, Chip, we'll just move on, then...
The only time a Gatorskin stepped out on me was on a wet manhole cover
This really is quite a dilemma for me, as apart from the manhole moment (!) the Gators are awesome.
    Krylions seem popular...

I run Gatorskins on my fixed wheel commuter and Krylions on my winter bike. Happy with both but I feel safer on the Krylions when the roads are wet.
  • My current favourite are Vredestein Fortezza Tricomp Quattro, I used them all last winter with no punctures on really bad roads, grip well and last and last, light too at 230grms. I find that conti tyres tend to perish easily, maybe it's the air in the West of Scotland.

Oh dear. I suggest you get some spectacles and/or learn to use the (straightforward) search properly - there are plenty of threads on here, including 5 in the last week that even have 'winter tyres' in the title!

I venture that Chip exaggerated for effect but you missed the joke  If you hadn't spit the dummy I would have used this post to make a useful suggestion.

Having used this forum for quite long enough now, usually if something is intended with humour, there is an emoticon with it.
Is this you diving in, to fight Chips battles!?... Chip and I sorted this out, if you read through the posts...
Now, go poke your nose where it may be wanted, and poke your 'useful suggestion' up your a*se.
See, you can tell by the use of emoticon that I'm not laughing...

For genuine readers/contributors to this post, I bought a pair of Michelin Krylion Carbon 25mm's today (grey).

My winter bike has 28mm Marathon Plus on it usually

I am doing a late season audax end of October (Dartmoor Devil) so I have switched to Rubino Pro Tech for a few weeks. The bike goes much faster but I have had a puncture (large thorn) which never happened with the Marathons

If your bike doesn't have the clearance for Marathon Plus then Durano Plus are supposedly pretty much as tough

Emoticons are neither compulsory nor a substitute for intelligence (well, they might be for some people). Perhaps they should start using them on the radio and TV and in newspapers so I know when we're supposed to laugh.

<sarcasm>Ooooh, me scared by angry internet forum poster brandishing a fierce emoticon.</sarcasm>

(there is no emoticon for sarcasm so I had to resort to typing it in case you didn't realise)

Is there significant stress in your life? Or is it just that the site's search facility has become your bête noire?

Krylions are apparently a very good tyre - they appear in lots of forum searches too, though you may not realise it

^ gratuitous, irrelevant wink emoticon inserted solely for my own entertainment.

I had something of value to add (as well as this) but since you've bought some tyres it's not useful any more, even if you could bring yourself to climb down off that tall horse of yours.
