OK, so after a trip to the dentist this morning I have learnt i need to have two wisdom teeth out. Has anyone had this done?

I should probally ecplain, the very thought of going to the dentist brings me out in a cold sweat. Hate is a strong word that gets thrown about a lot but , no offence to any dentists out there, I HATE them with a passion. Lieing in the chair as they come at me with that drill I just want to catch them with a right hook and do a runner out of there.

Someone tell me its all going to be ok.....................
(curls up into a small ball and sobs)

Trust me, the agony your wisdom teeth will cause if you don't have them removed will be far greater than your fear of dentists!

Mine have been causing me pain on and off for 6-odd years now, haven't been to the dentist in over 10 years and not likely to anytime soon

I had all four out at once under general. Absolute agaony for weeks afterwards, couldn't open my mouth wide enough to get any food in for a few days, and got a cracked rib from the dentist leaning on my chest to pull.
I think he was doing it like this: Have fun.

Wisdom teeth are the spawn of Satan....

Had top 2 out under local (NEVER AGAIN)
Bottom 2 under GA- very sore, and bruised ribs, but then about 2 weeks after they came out I woke up one morning and remembered what it was like to not have tooth ache!

Most dentists only try to take them our if they are coming through at a dodgy angle, if they get stuck they tend to rot and thats when they cause hell.

I was not happy about having them out, but a bit like many medical things, it was better in the long run!

One of my wisdom teeth is on the wonk. It doesn't hurt though. I've not been to the dentist for years, as i don't particularly like them either.

As soon as it does start hurting though, I'm going to get it done under general, that's for sure!

I work for about 20 dentists so I know your pain. But yeah if you've been advised (by a good dentist) to have them out, get them out. As far as I know wisdom teeth were originally for when we lost the rest of our teeth, to give us something to chew with before we die.
  • I've had one removed- it came out no problem, although I felt a biy shitty for a day or two.

Wish I had got mine taken out. I got a dental abcess, and the gums would heal over the tooth. Agony mate, get them out.

i had one out when it was hurting so bad i couldnt see straight, never felt anytihgn like it. as soon as it was pulled though, it was instant relief.

had the other 3 removed as a matter of course under general aneasthetic and the damge to my gums took about fortnight to stop hurting.

Got three and although they let me know they're there from time-to-time, it'll be a cold day in Hell and I will be drugged and bound before I go to the dentist.

Had one wisdom tooth removed, the pain before it was removed was ridiculous I couldnt sleep for a whole week, the tooth came out wonky and food got into a gap I couldnt brush fully and rotted the tooth to the nerves.

The pain after the surgery was nothing compared to the pain before.

Had mine under local, it was great fun being awake and listening to them crack your teeth open, pretty much standing on various things to get as much weight behind cracking it open and not feeling a thing!

None of this is helping fella's. Probably the wrong place to come looking for sympathy. Im surprised no one has offered to do it for me with a hammer and nail!

I think it's helping! Because the pain of the op is not a patch on the pain of complications! Dental abcesses are horrific.

I managed to break both my upper widsom teeth on the lower ones so they came out no problem the only issue I found was the sensation/sound when the dentist twistd it from the root , then there is some bracing on the chair but nothing too bad, had a lower one out in hospital, just because it was massive and had to be drilled in half and the woman dentist doing did have to call in a bigger bloke dentist topull but again nothing more than a pulling sensation, much better out though loads less problems like sore throat, ear ach and flu like syptoms.
