Mixing gear sets.
I am building a winter bike and it has an early 90’s Campagnolo groupset (unidentified series as yet) with a seven speed cassette. I want to use my 'old wheels' (pre upgrade on summer bike) the rear of which runs a Shimano hub with a ten speed cassette. I have run an Ultegra ten speed chain around the Campag chainwheel and it appears to engage with it perfectly.
I’d like to keep as much of the Campagnolo kit as possible.
My questions are:
Will the rear derailleur have enough travel to span a ten speed cassette?
Will the front mech shift the Shimano chain?
I have indexed down tube shifters but I can set them to friction so they should ok. Is there anything else I should consider.
Many thanks.

Firstly, are you using downtube shifters or integrated brake / shifter levers i.e. Ergos?
Highpath Engineering website has plent of info on bike transmissions, widths, compatibility etc.
You should be OK using DT levers in friction mode - using Ergo levers will be a problem as the 6 index stops will not be aligned for your rear sprockets.
If you cant get the full range of sprockets, you might have to wind-in the rear mech stop screws.
The front mech should work OK, but you may need care fine-tuning to ensure you don't over-shift the narrow chain.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0 -
Hi Monty Dog
I am using down tube shifters.
So I'll give it a go then.
