Doing the clutch on my citroen dispatch van, i can't work out if the bearing buffer goes on to the clutch plate first or is it mounted on the selector fork first, then pushed in as the bell housing is re-connected :?

What engine/gearbox does it have? Is it a push clutch or pull type?

If it is a pull type, I've worked on a Xantia and replaced a pull clutch. It was a while ago but I'll try and remember what was involved. I remember that you removed a plate at the bottom of the bell housing to set everything up as the housing was pushed back in place.

    Edit:

All coming back now. If it is a push clutch, the bearing fits to the fork inside the bell housing over the splines. If it is a pull clutch, the bearing is attached to the pressure plate and the forks have to be aligned properly before the gearbox is pushed home. The fork swings and engages with the bearing as the gearbox and engine are fully bolted home. I can give more details once I know what kind of clutch you have.

Thanks for the info. It looks like the fork is pushed at the top by the hydrolic clutch, which then pivots to release the bearing.

If your pressure plate is similar to this one (spring ends visible), it is a push clutch. The release bearing (the little thingy to the left is attached to the fork inside the bell housing before replacing the gearbox.

Much easier than a pull clutch - though it wasn't as difficult as some make it out to be.

    Pull clutch shown below:
