I recently noticed that you can buy specific turbo tyres.....bad enough having to switch skewers!

Anyone use them? are they worth it? Any benefits? or are they just a solution to a problem that doesnt exist.

  • Wouldn't bother. As long as you aren't spinning the wheel hard enough to strip off rubber, the only downside you'll find it perhaps negligible tyre wear and more noise. Specific tyres do claim to be quieter, but I've never found the noise of turbos or rollers that excessive.

I've got one, but only because I have a dedicated rear wheel for the turbo, so don't have to constantly switch tyres.
It's quieter, smoother (no tread), and lasts much longer than a normal tyre. I've had it a few years now and it's still going strong.

I have the Conti version on my turbo. Quiter than road tyres and doesn't melt when you up the resistance.

I don't bother any more, I just use my worn out Mitchelin Krylions.

I had a spate of mystery punctures using turbo-specific tyres (cont and vittoria), but these went away when I switched to old road tyres on the turbo.

Buy Michelin Pro 3 tyres, use them until they have more gashes than a Soho whorehouse, and then demote them to a turbo tyre.
