As it says, I did my first 100 on saturday.
7 of us did the Norwich 100 route.
Only started out 7 months ago and have done quite a few trips of 35, two of 50 and one of 60 so was a step up.
Energy levels were all fine but boy my legs feel tight.
Quite pleased doing it and feeling good all the way energy wise.
Hoping things will only improve as my weight drops (16'12 now down from 19plus)

Congratulations on your distance (and weight loss) - bet you had a lovely day for it too. :)
  • Lovely day,? sun never broke through and had a stiff breeze head on for about 30 miles across the top along the coast. (it broke one of the guys, young but had not really being doing any distance rides)

Nice one. You've got it spot on to work up the distances to the ton.

    Keep going and enjoy!

    ..
  • I also kept to a fuelling plan.
Had a high 5 pre drink an hour before with a gel.
I then drank two bottles in the first 50 with a high 5 powder, I also had another gel and energy bar.
At the 50 I ate two chicken rolls and topped up my bottles and mixed in a couple of those zero tabs. i had two further gels and half an energy bar over the second half
Maybe overkill but wanted to play safe, guess it worked as in the last 20 miles or so when some of the others were slacking I was doing mini sprints, dropping to the back of the group trying to bring a couple of others back to the group and then sprinted the last mile to to the finish all the while whistling and feeling general cheerful about it all :D

    All started here

  • congratulations superb effort very inspiring what people can do when they put their mind to it bring on next year.
  • Congrats Steve,

Did the essex 100 in september and i still feel proud of myself to have accomplished this with only 6 weeks of real road 'training' Rather than mucking about doing 20milers on the mtb.

Its definitely what pushes me on the turbo with my goal time i have in mind for next year.
Its Italian, its carbon.....and some lanky tool rides it.

Well done mate a really good effort.
It's a suprisingly demanding course due to the hills being concentrated together and as you mentioned the prevailing stiff wind when you hit the flat country by the coast.
I have ridden it a few times now and i love the run in back to Norwich, usually with a tailwind to perk you up.
Hope to crack the 5 hour barrier next year(5'29" this year)
  • Thx for the support guys.
it was a funny ride though.
The first twenty had three complete beginners (young I might add) so avg was only 11mph for that.
The middle section was pretty much down to me though
The last 20 or so were a bit frustrating.
As I was the lead man I kept getting told to slow down for the last two people, so could only trundle at around 14mph on roads where keeping 17s was easily doable.
All in all my avg was 14.5 (gps)
    What next I wonder?
I do fancy getting a train somwhere In Europe then ride home.
Not ready for the big Hills yet as am still way to heavy for all that
  • PS No issues with wheels even when I was running RS10s with a low spoke count when I was around the 18stone mark
