What are P7 lights?

After reading the various light threads, I've seen lots of references to P7 lights, I had assumed these were a brand or name of light but after googling/ebaying P7 there's a bewildering array of P7s

So I guess P7 is reference to the LED technology? Can anyone shed any light on this for me and explain what is good about them?

A link to a UK recommended supplier would be nice to

They are indeed an LED - available in torches from eBay, Lumenjunkies, Torchy or DealExtreme/Bestofferbuy; or made up into bike specific lights with external battery packs (e.g. Magicshine). I can't recommend a UK supplier as I got mine from DealExtreme.

They are CHEAP (were $35 usd, now I think you can get them for about $25 usd), and very BRIGHT (rated 900 lumens, but probably around 500 with protected cells).

See "What Lights" and the now 100+ page "discussion thread"... and the 'NEW discussion thread'. Somewhere in all this there is something by diy which explains in more detail... 4 LEDs on a chip or something.

mine came today

and i can tell you a p7 is bright thats what it is :P

turned off all the lights and stood at the bottom of my garden, flicked it on and it was like a freaking footy stadium, deffo adding a night ride to my weekend.
