are you waiting for a landline to be fitted or summat?

i sed to use joikuspot when i was waiting for my interwebs to be sorted after i moved in here. it used my mobile fone as a wifi spot so i could use my laptop to browse.

was very handy but my mobile package only has limited interweb access so di end up pricey for me.

My mobile saved my life when we bought the house and VM took weeks to sort themselves out :D
  • whats the *99# dialing method?!

    sheepsteeth
sorta... I was supposed to be going with virgin media, but they were a bunch of idiots. 6 weeks to be connected!! and then they said there was still someone registered at my flat so it would have taken longer!

i'm not paying £80 and £xx a month just for the net for 10 months... my tennancy is up in 10 months as this flat is only temporary accom atm!

i had problems with orange. was taking about a month and still no internet. so we went for BT, 2 days and we had interent. we haven't had any major problems, conctivity is about a 4/5 and customer service is great
  • Your using a blackberry as a modem arn't you? Used to do that when at friends houses who didn't have internet.

Plus 1 for BT, good prices, definitely good speeds, and amazing customer services.

connect phone to pc, in the modem settings you'd put *99# as the dialup number. if you've put a normal landline number etc on the modem you'd be getting charged by the minute!

you haven't gone for one of those payg methods where you pay 1p a min but it soon adds up?

I've a feeling he using his Mobile Phone broadband connection rather than some dial-up number, that would be utter madness these days!

*99# still gives broadband speeds depending on the phone used. my old LG Viewty managed upto 6mb whereas my satio manages 1.2mb (HSPDA or whatever it's called is quite fast!)

  • Using the iPhone :)

Supposed to pay for tethering but there is an app that turns your phone into a server... Not technically tethering. So I can use my 3G from my phone on the laptop.
Basically instead of browsing on safari on my iPhone I browse safari on my mac.... Without the need for a magnifying glass!

the tethering thing is on the o2 website somewhere. unless he's using a different tethering method

  • but I thought you had to pay for tethering? thats why I assumed that if there is a app to get round this charge it prob wouldn't be available for a non jail broken iphone

ah i didn't read the non paying part. the tethering can use wifi and maybe his pc doesn't have wifi? and he's hijacking the wifi from the neighbour

its an extra £10 a month to tether... even though I pay for unlimited data usage :?

the "app" turns the iphone into a server, which means it creates its own wifi network that my mac connects to. clever eh!
