Proper aerial, screened cable and proper connectors. The signal still drops out on a regular basis and we lose channels randomly. If the digital switchover happens I want my friggin money back!
Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

No problems here, even with an aerial in the attic. Could be a crappy Freeview box.

Shitty shared ariel and a crappy built in tv tuner and my reception is perfect. Do you live in the sticks?

I can't get any FreeView signal, even with an amplified antenna. And I live in the fourth largest city in the UK.

Not bothered as I have cable.

They up the transmitter power when your region goes digital. Here in the Northwest (Winter Hill transmitter) digital was crap before the switchover freezing and going blocky especially when it was raining you had to use a signal booster to make it work. Now I reckon I could use a piece of wet string as an aerial I had to remove the booster because I was getting ghosting especially when watching sports.

TV is still shat though just 80 channels of shat instead of 5.

what transmitter are you on, how far from it and what aerial type? Who installed the aerial? Also what is the signal strength when it works?
  • There can also be environmental factors that cause the single to drop.
The current high atmospheric pressure over regions of the the UK can be a factor. I live towards the extreme range of the transmitter and the signal can sometimes disappear when the atmopsheric pressure is high. It was a problem last night and this morning.

We still haven't had the switch over in my area (due in 2011) and the analogue signal is weakened by the same enivronmental factors - much more noise in the picture. Hopefully when they up the digital signal strength on switchover tthis type of signal loss will not occur as often.

Now we have the BBC iPlayer on the kids Wii there's very little need for anything else... until July, when Freeview is required for the TdF

As stubs says, most of the transmitters are running low power until analogue is turned off. In my area, reception is crap atm with a decent amplified arial.

Either wait it out, or go FreeSat. We went FreeSat and have never looked back. You get HD too which is brilliant. Although I think FreeView now has HD, but I digress. Putting up a dish is a piece of pish too, so dont be put off installing it all yourself.
