Had my Rockhopper pro for just over a year now and i want to step it up a cog and get a full suspension bike. would i be able to swap my parts over to a fs frame? and if so have you lot got any ideas to which one. I have seen a sx trails frame on here which looks like it would be good. Thanks guys

I'll follow this thread too as in a year from now i think I will be in the same boat. Initially I was thinking it would be good to keep the rockhopper for xc riding like the evans rideit events each month.

You will need new forks unless you get an XC frame, and if you get new forks maybe a new wheelset too. And depending on frame sizing you may also need seatpost, front mech, brake hoses and cables.

Or use this as an excuse to do a build with full Sram XX/XTR Trail

  • Dont mean to sound stupid but could you give my a example of a xc frame and why would the front mech not fit.

An XC frame would be designed around 100-120mm forks, while the SX Trail is designed around 160-180mm forks. As for the front mech, some have spacers in the band, but some have different sized bands, read this

  • Thanks for the link. I have been looking at upgrading a few parts for a while now but holding off to buy a frame (or bike) I want to stay on the xc side of biking so what frame would you recommend.

The Giant Anthem is considered on of the best 100mm travel frames around.

If you can extend the travel on your forks to 120mm then it opens up lots of other options.

you open them up and have a look. or tell us what they are.

and some parts will fit but others will not

    things that may not fit.

    headset
    fork
    front mech
    seat post
    seat post clamp
    rear wheel
    BB/cranks
brake hoses maybe the wrong length.
