Was out having a night ride not far from Aviemore tonight, had a great time.
Cycling along and saw a big grey pussy cat in the path in front of me, it took one look and scurried into the undergrowth. I good a very good look at it's tail and am 75% certain it was a wildcat!
There are only around 400 pure bred ones left. My wife and I volunteer for Cat Protecton and have been involved with http://www.highlandtiger.com/ so I've been trained to identify the real McCoy from hybrids (wildcats crossed with domestics).
Later on my headtorch lit up six eyes in a row at the side of the path, a wee family of roe deer :-)

There used to be a lot of hybird wildcats in Llanberis, but I have some recollection of there being a cull on them, since they were properly dangrous, and were disrupting the goats, or something.
They were BIG :shock:0 -
