Recommend me a road bike for £800 - £900

Evening folks,

Im looking for a road bike around the price stated in the title, i have looked at loads but not really up to speed on my road bike specifications etc. I had one 2 years ago that i rarely used so sold it but would like to get back into it as my mate who i mountain bike is away to be a Dad and i doubt he will get out much!!!

So what is hot and what is not?

I would recommend the Specialized Allez Elite. 2011 model is £899 but if you can get the size you need in a 2010 model the rrp is £799 but can now be had for a bit less if you shop around. I believe both have Tiagra groupsets and carbon forks, pretty much the standard spec for this price.

Many ppl rave about the CAAD 9 - here is one in ur price range, with tiagra but can always be upgraded.

Have you considered buying secondhand - that sort of budget would get you a bike well beyond the spec of a new bike - see PM

You could get a Ribble Ultralite, with whatever groupset you choose for a very good price (e.g. Tiagra £670 or Campag Athena £930).

How about Focus Cayo or Planet X though you might have to stretch your budget a small amount. I havent tried them out but many good comments. I bought an allez elite at the beginning of the year and after a couple of months, after getting the bug, I wished I'd spent £200 more
