    In my experience everyone is different and some people prefer standing to sitting

    If you are little and usually ride with racing cyclists up small hills then you will be standing

    If you are heavy and a tourist you will be sitting

    Standing is less efficient but can generate more power to the pedals
  • I see nobody mentioned the fourth option which I normally opt for;

    Start the climb, find you're in too high a gear, wobble a bit whilst frantically shifting down, try not to knot the chain whilst trying to unclip the SPD's and end up pushing the bike to the top?

    Just me then?

    I made it up, what to me was a cliff face last week, its not very long - a few hundred metres but its bloody steep. had a hill loving mate with me who got me up, i put it in the lowest gear and span my way up, holding the centre of the top bar and not looking at the top of the hill, 20 yards to go and a couldn't feel my fingers, was swearing like a trooper and breathing as deep and hard as i could, i probably overdid it but the sense of achievement was fantastic. Dragging my belly up that hill has convinced me i can do more than i initially thought and not give up so easily.

    I'm going back for more this weekend :twisted:
