    Hooooray for clean cycling!
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.

The difference between Ricco and Basso is night and day.

One has shown true contrition, gone out of his way to prove that he is now clean, with more transparancy the entire rest of the peloton and is like by peers and fans alike. The other is a shifty rat who's dumped his missus to save his hide and now has had a bottle of mysterious pills found in his appartment.

Petacchi at least is a gentleman. A cheating gentleman but still a gentleman. Vino is a force of nature so should not be compared to mere mortals.

Drugs can change the rider's performance, they cannot take change their racing instinct and mentality.

I wouldn't be so sure FF.

BTW - I can recommend the latest Freakanomics podcast to all. It's about baseball and cheating but it's quite relevant to cycling in a strange way.

Hit the hot sauce and you can light up a race because of the extra power you gain. Stay honest and maybe you're reduced to following wheels.

But you can only attack if you have better (or more doped) legs than the others.

Look at Cadel Evans. In Mountain biking he was a really attacking rider. Then on the road he becomes a wheelsucker until the blood passport comes in and he becomes an attacking rider again.

Nice job Gesink although I would have preferred Dan Martin. Three times the attacker, he led for most of the climb before Gesink cam round him in the last 200m...

Really lovely town and the climb is a stinger.

Certainly a selective group that finished in the first 15 or so.

Last 15mins well worth a watch:

No, called sour grapes. Ricco got top ten. Hooger would not have done much better if at all. That climb would kill him even if he was riding wheels.

Well, it's not the first time his team mates have called him an uncommunicative tool, is it?

I see - You're suggesting the VS guys all learn to speak asshole so they can communicate with Ricardo?

The big problem at Vacansoleil seems to be the fact that they've bought a new leader during the season. Leukemans and Hoogerland both know they are good riders and they were expecting to lead the team during these races. Both Leukemans and Hoogerland are not exactly shy when speaking to the media, they like to make statements.

Sad news: No Gesink in Lombardia. His father rode the Bart Brentjens Challenge yesterday and crashed. His father is still in a hospital in Maastricht and Gesink has decided to return to the Netherlands.

A shame for Bobby G, he skipped the Worlds so he could plan for Lombardy. It's possible that his dad recovers and Gesink can fly out for the race, even if he has to miss the mid week warm-ups.

Unfortunately his father passed away yesterday from the injuries sustained.
