  • the question you will get asked is what do you want to achieve with your upgrades?

and just for the benifit of everyone, if you say what kinda riding your doing mostly itll help us, as will a rough budget (least amount of money is very perceptive :D, for example, i will not be able to eat by xmas because i bought new wheels and forks, however some people may deem that to be an unwise move)

Buy some good cheap lights (lots of threads on P7s, C1s (XRE/XPG) and Magicshine) and go night riding. About £65 will set you up.

  • look at rock shox toras, they will improve the handling of your bike no end. you should also be able to get a good set of hydraulic brakes (tektros or juicy 3s) for the £250 budget. both of these will help loads :)

  • if your looking at forks, for about £150 rock shox toras should be available (bullet proof and relaly really nice performers, just chunky for it). (check the classified, they come up from time to time). if you want to spend the whole wedge, you might be able to get the basic reba SLs for that (which are amazing), or the recons if not (still amazing, just abit weighty)

I would second the Rockshox tora forks. They transformed my Hardrock's handling. Big improvement for not too much cash. You should be able to get a set of 120 or 130 travel toras well within your budget.
  • Well, I think that the idea of night riding will get you something that you haven't experienced before, just arrange for some good lights and out you go buddy. This could become your most amazing experience. However, I haven't tried it till now but I would surely want to go for once.

Night riding is great fun. Make sure you have got very good lights though & take it steady until you get used to it. The P7 lights are pretty good. I have got a Light & Motion Stella which is a bit lighter, a lot smaller whith much better battery life and just as bright but double the price :(
Don't go night riding on your own. At night, in the woods there will be no one about if you do have an accident. Lots of clubs run night rides.

By accident, I mean falling off and hurting yourself, not soiling yourself.

I would pick up some hayes 9 disc brakes for around £100, that will make a huge difference, then keep an eye out for some 2nd hand forks in your budget.

i have some manitou blacks 100/120 mm you could have for £60 posted, they are in perfect working order, few scuff marks(to be expected) i've just upgraded my forks for more travel. pm me if your interested.
    time to man up.
