well, I'm after something different. I find the compact I run 50/34 with a 12/27 is ok for European sportives, Alps travel etc, but not very good for the UK. I could go for a 53/39 but sometimes you need a compact in the UK, I'm not getting any younger! I needed my compact for Mortirolo this year on holiday and some other passes in Italy and Switzerland, I think could off done most of them with a 50/34 12-25 but I find I really lose a lot of power on the flats and hills, I was thinking of tinkering with something like a 52-36 I know Specialities TA France make them for Campy 11. And some other companies.

Any good combi's out there! or suggestions.

    I like a wide ratio 26-11 or 12 cassette and a 53-39.

It mainly depends wether you spin or push hard up the hills.

Keep the compact. Keep the current cassette for the Alps, get a new one for the UK... 11-21 or as aggressive as you feel suits.

Cost is low, flexibility is high.
