BKB is suprisingly hard on the arms at full tilt. A stint of slow mindless grind up hill isnt the worst thing after that dh.

May I recommend you buy some MTFU at Peaslake next time :-)

This has got trails on Pitch as well as some on Winterfold, and the others above, mix and match it, there's a lot of riding up there!

Depends on your definition of full tilt i guess. If you don't reach the bottom needing a rest, you were probably too scared to ride it properly.

You can throw a lot into BKB but should be pretty smooth. The berms are well made too so you should be able to go full tilt into them with little effort and not fly off the top of the berms.

Hard going on the arms is doing the descent on Whites Levels in Wales, fast and without any stops :D

I was joking, but lets go for a ride together and we'll see, I don't like to speculate about speed, it's easy to be quick behind a keyboard, but 'm not particularly slow down BKB! Going out tomorrow if you want to come and show us how to do it properly!? 10:30 at Peaslake.

Personally I'd say if you need a rest at the bottom of a trail, you're a bit unfit!

Did Popstar's alternative ending to TR with him on Thursday, like that. I meant lower down, if you go to the YH car park, turn right, cross the fireroad, there was a good, reasonably steep trail down to the fireroad, it's been trashed, bit of a shame.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I dont have a GPS, well i do on my phone but that costs!!

me and a mate are newbies at this and are looking at either doing SH or the Evans Crawley ride on the 23rd Oct.

We just not sure what we are gonna get for our £11 on the evans ride???

We have done 3 rides now around the Blean woods in canterbury, its been good, but we want more!!

I Live in Folkestone and my mate lives in Rainham, so not to bad to get to SH/Crawley but its just deciding what to do.......

If you do not fancy going out with the guys say on the london calling thread( who would be more than willing for you guys to tag along) you could look to join one of the bike shop rides that go out from Nirvana cycles in westcott.

I am not a fan of the shop or these rides( head for hills is far superiorin Dorking) but they may be useful to you, i suspect that you could look at their site or ring the shop to find out about them . It would at least give you an idea of the area so you can make your own routes up after a few outings.

How do you miss Telegraph when climbing from BKB? :?

Or is this another Telegraph? I'm thinking of the one that goes from the end of Yoghurt Pots towards the Youth Hostel.

Now the way to miss that Telegraph properly is to go right after Yoghurt Pots and seek out the steep black DH :D. Or cross Telegraph and go down what I think someone called Diarrhea  (parallel to Telegraph and loops up to rejoin it or continues down to the car park in Holmbury St Mary). Otherwise it's always worth doing Telegraph after Yoghurt Pots.

DK what you mean is go right out of YP then left on the cross roads towards TELEGRAPH , on this bit of fire road just as you get to the top of a small hill on your right hand side is a trail that is known as NO Diarrhoea, this takes you across the pants uphill section of telegraph and brings you out by the Wi.

Agree that Telegraph is worth doing, although there's a fallen tree/felling at the bottom of the trail it leads into, down to the car park right by the road, rather annoyingly.
There's a left branch there onto the "man's route" (as Popstar calls it :D) which comes out at the Youth Hostel. Need some speed to clear the rooty drops and watch out for people walking up it!

Or do not take the left branch, go right and pick your way through the area that has been chopped to bits( there is a main trail through here) then continue straight.
You will croos over a fairly main path that runs left to right, go over this straight.
You will then come to an area with 2 options Right is what i think DK refered to as black DH although I would probably say short technical down with a small drop to the carpark by the LIFE train place .
Or my prefered option is ignore the right and continue straight, this trail is more single track and will bring you out at the bottom of the road to the youth hostel, follow this up and you are back at the end of telegraph.

The steep trail being referred to is above telegraph though, so not anywhere near the YH. May go and have a look this morning!

I was thinking of just after YP/Parklife, immediate right at the bench, up the hill and when it flattens out, off over the grass to the left, then down a steep path that opens out dropping to the road below (Holmbury Hill Road). Popstar calls it the black DH.

The beauty of the Surrey Hills...so many trails! Not come across this...will have to check it out next time I'm up there!

That kind of Black DH, as in itself is pretty tame trail. A bit tricky, those christmas leaves bushes will trick you into a crash if not paying plenty of respect to a hidden step. But the speed you get there is insane.
It is once you finished YogPots/Parklife you end up on fire road. Keep going towards Telegraph Row on cross roads turn right instead left to Telegraph, then only 100-200 metres riding towards uphill of Holmbury peak you will see a discreet trail on your left. That's the tricky baby you want to ride.
However if you ride it past by accident, you will end up with other kind of double track trail going down which is good fun too, but is better ridden uphill especially by racing snakes.
