do people waste money???

was out today doing west of ambleside with the grizedale loop,was doing the loop when we caught up to these group of riders dressed in all the gear and on top of the range oranges,cubes cannondales etc,but slowed us really down and i mean really down,considering were on ht and were not that great,do people really need to spend that kind of money if they dont push the limits?? or really know what there riding,i dont know,all the gear and no idea springs to mind
