My continental Ultra Race Tyres that came with my CR1 are showing cord after only 600 miles  .
Could someone suggest a training tyre for club runs / winter that will hold up and still give me some speed. I was thinking of gatorskins maybe ?

Those Ultra Race are dreadful, came as standard on my Focus.

How about Bontrager Race X Lite Hardcase, Schwalbe Durano/Durano Plus or Michelin Krylion Carbon?Aspire not to have more, but to be more.0

I would go for either Krylion carbons or ultra gators .....0

Having put about a 1000km on the Ultremo DD they are a nice winter tyre. Alot more durable than the R1's and more puncture resistant. I was unlucky though a put a huge rip in one. Quite draggy compared to the R1's but alot of tyres are!
I'm using Conti 4 Seasons at the moment and again have put about 1000km on them. Had a bigish cut in it (which didn't puncture) and the duraskin layer seems to have held it together better and have managed to glue perfectly back together such that I can't find the tear anymore.
I have just received a pair of Gator Hardshells (I go through alot of tyres) and they seem pretty tough but haven't ridden them yet. Will post back when i do.0 -
Continental Ultra Gatorskins are £15.00 at the moment at Planet X at that price there are worth a pop I think . Thanks will let you know how it goes on them.0

Krylion Carbons are still going strong after >2,000m without punctures on my CR1 PRO. They show some surface cuts but nothing seems to get through the carcass.
Had done a couple of damp rides so far and they feel OK but I don't know how they'll feel on cold/ icy country roads...0 -
