I'm thinknig of using them to buy my first proper bike through. They seem to have some good deals and I'd hope they can do a bike fitting etc for me.
Has anyone had any dealings with them? Good or bad experience??
Also, while I'm on - is the Giant Defy 2 at £750 a good bet???
Cheers
Tom

Used them for years. Great guys. Seem to remember that the Chesterfield shop is more road-focused (and had more roadies amongst the staff).Commute: Langster -Singlecross - Brompton S2-LX

bad experience for me. i phoned to query a pair of forks, i was told they were the ones i was after so i asked for them to be put to one side so i could drive down to collect them, so after a 75 mile drive i get there to find that the forks they had put to one side were the wrong ones and they didnt have what i was after, to be fair they did me a deal on some more expensive forks, but after a 150mile round trip and spending more than i had planned for i wasnt overly impressed. to add insult to injury, when i got home i noticed the fork hose guide was missing so i phoned to be told they would send it out to me. after waiting for a few weeks i gave up. i was also told that a part i knew existed didnt exist so they could order it in. all in all a pretty clueless bunchViner Salviati

Took a trip there to buy a Look they had on offer. Felt more like a supermarket than a bike shop tbh.
Good price on a good bike though!0 -
I've bought a few things online from them and got good quick service. A tacx VR trainer was proving a bit uncooperative and they were very helpful in sorting things. So I'd give them an OK"The only absolute statement is that everything is relative" - anon0

Bought my first road bike from them. Service was OK, but not magnificent. In hindsight I'd have asked more questions of them. The 6-week service wasn't up to much. All in all, if you're looking at using a Sheffield LBS, go to Butterworth's in HIllsborough.0

I've found them very hit and miss to be honest. I received great service when trying out bikes, they put a couple on the turbo trainer and took time to set them up for me.
Different story when collecting though, i had to ask for it to be set up and it all just seemed like a big chore for them. Plus the white bar tape was grubby!!! (cleaned up with washing detergent though!)
Same story with the aftersales, just depends who you get, got one guy getting snotty with me cos I thought waiting a week for a replacement part for a 1 week old bike wasn't good enough. Another guy sorted it within a couple of days.
I wouldn't say don't buy from there but know what you want and don't leave with your new bike until you're 100% happy.0 -

Butterworths used to be good when it was owned by Tony B, upstairs rooms were alladins caves of bike stuff, now its owned by someone else seems a bit low on stock.
Try Planet X at Rotherham, or try RaceScene at Barnsley http://www.racescene.co.uk/index.html, not sure what they will have in your price range but worth a look.
For LBS for spares/repairs, Wilson Cycles on City Rd Sheff is good.0 -
Yeah, i bought a wheelset from them back in may. No problems. Super fast delivery. Ordered on the Monday and were up here in the N. east of scotland by wed morning!!0

When my GF was buying a bike, we checked they had in a specific model before travelling over there for a test ride. On arrival, we were told they didn't have that model, and had never had it. So that wasn't too impressive...
That meant looking at a couple of more expensive models, one of which the GF was interested in buying. The fact they'd f* up the original test ride provided good leverage when it came to negotiating a very hefty discount on the bike she eventually purchased.
So a decent result was salvaged from the initial "c0ck up". I'd buy from there again at the right price.0
