Tapered Headset Question

If a frame is 1.5" at bottom and inch-and-eigth at top, I am assuming the only possible configuration of headset will be 45/45 at top and 36/45 at bottom. So what I am trying to establish is ... I presumably cannot go wrong buying a tapered headset so long as I make sure it is 1.5" at bottom and inch-and-eigth at top, because whichever one I buy will fit.
