Agreed. I enjoyed seeing how long it would take them to work out that Gilbert had actually been caught, which everyone else clearly saw on the video feed.

I think they were still confused as to why he wasn't on the podium that were that clueless!
  • Immortal lines from the Women's Road when Curi-Mattis made an early break: ''...she keeps bolting seconds onto the window of advantage.'' That had to be my most memorable bit of nonsense from the whole championships.

When I saw Gilbert caught by Kolobkev and the commentators did not see it it it was a WTF ? moment. Good race though. I like the way the commentators didn't tell the general viewing public that all the riders were stopping for a slash on the dual carriageway bit :D
  • I particularly like playing the 'how many riders will Hugh give the ...race face or ...good legs to' game. Was particularly entertaining during ToB.

I hated the way they kept cutting back to Chris Boardman explaining sections of the road layout during the actual closing kilometres of the f*cking race!

Maybe we can use this as the new index for sporting spread betting now that no-balls in cricket is not fashionable any more.

+1 That really pissed me off.
  • some people just prefer the delay of sean kelly
    Crafted in Italy apparantly
  • I recently got Eurosport and the level of commentary is so much better than the beeb or P&P. Sean may be slow but at least he talks sense.

    Was it really that bad?
I was a bit "huh" when they did not notice that the break away guy got caught up.

It really was, judging by the highlights package.

Hmm. This is the first cycling thing I watched on BBC. All of the other commentaries are usually very good.
  • Despite the gaffs (the infamous 10 minute sandwich break – which I think he also did in Beijing IIRC – Nibali's phantom break 2 laps from the finish and Gilbert's apparently mysterious "disappearance" somewhere in the fninishing straight) I actually preferred the mix of HP's over-excitable style and the more calm approach of "Bored-Man" to the Eurosport commentators for these races.

At times Harmon seemed.. well, if not disinterested, then less captivated by it all than usual. Perhaps they were having to do their commentary from the London studios in the middle of the night, rather than being at the party in Geelong -- certainly the ambient noise of crowds, cars and tannoys was louder on Porter and Boardman's soundtrack.
