Banger racers

Is there some death race 2000 style hatred going on with banger racers toward cyclists ? This morning, my wife had to brake hard to avoid one who pulled out of a junction (in a lorry) in front of her. No great shakes in normal circumstances, but she had made eye contact well before he pulled out, and his sneer was that of having done it on purpose. Blow me if this afternoon, while i was out another one, a transit with trailer, only tried to do the same thing to me, and then blew his horn when he couldnt get out ! I gave a little wave (sort of) and carried on. Is it us ?
