So we all know Jack White is amazing (don't we), but what about Meg? Is she a bit rubbish or would the White Stripes just not be the same without her?

Don't fix wot ain't broke! The answer is superflous to the video anyway. One of my favs' on Youtube, a fantastic cover, and I'm not even a big WS fan."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

She works for the environment she is in. But as a drummer? - no-one is going to be hiring her anytime soonM.Rushton0

Wouldn't be The White Stripes without her.
As a drumist tho? She's a bit better than Mo Tucker but a lot worse than the monkey on the chocolate advert.0 -

The gorilla was good though."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -
She cant play for toffee. Its just her style suits what they're playing.
Her technique is appalling, she cant keep time and how she sits on that drum stool so high and still manages to play I'll never know. Her only saving grace is she only has one other band member who has to try and stay in time with her.
Don't get the fuss about them tbh, 7 Nation Army is a god tune but the rest...blah blah same old same old distorted guitar and horrendous drumming.
Great cover though I must admit.0 -
She's perpetually got a face like a smacked arse and a chimp could do a better job with a set of drums.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

This thread makes me sad. I can't believe people are actually doubting Meg's brilliance!
The White Stripes have been my favourite bad since forever.0 -
they might be your fave band but I'd like to think you are being ironic about her 'brilliance'. Perhaps she is like a modern artist who just throws paint at a canvas and some people are convinced it's great. If she was so good I notice that she never gets an invite to play with anyone else. FWIW people used to slag Dave Grohl off as being rubbish but look how his career has turned out.M.Rushton0

Someones brilliance is anothers lack of. It is a simple matter of taste and if it works for you, excellent. I like the White Stripes, they would not be the band thay are woithout both of them and the style they have developed.
Happy Mondays would have lacked something if Bez wasn't there.
Wham were massively successful but what did Andrew Ridgely do exactly ?
Bros were massive, but what about the dark haired fella, what did he do ?
Ok, 2 of the bands above were shite, but I hope my point comes across.0 -
Bez danced, I don't think he wrote the songs/played on the album but I might be wrongM.Rushton0

Nah, you are missing the point. Some bands just work even though some of the members dont seem to play well or contribute much, without them it would not be the band that people love.
look at the Beatles, Ringo would never set the world alight with his drumming but he was a part of a really good band that altogether worked very well.0 -
Thomas the Tank Engine would never have gotten where it was today had it not been for Ringo.0

Reporter: "Is Ringo the best drumer in the world?"
Lennon: "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles"0 -

Strangely he was the drummer on the first Lennon album altho'Jim Keltner became drummer of choice.M.Rushton0 -
This we a great pub discussion, pints, crisps and whilst not pointless debate not exactly change the world chat either......0

She is a dreadful drummist IMO, with no sense of timing or dynamics what so ever. But I guess many millions of album sales can't be wrong and I suppose what she does works with brother/husband Jack White's guitar w@nkery.
If I was to state who I think is a brilliant female drummer, I'd go for Sheila E...

Never 'eard of 'er and never 'eard of 'em. Just watched 30 seconds of the video and it's pretty obvious that you could teach a monkey to whack a symbol now and then.
:roll:Summer: Kuota Kebel
Winter: GT Series30 -
She has a very mechanical style (sitting there bashing it like a kid with a hammer) but it complements the Jack White pulsing guitar sound and is the right style particularly for the excellent White Blood Cells & Elephant albums.0

Think your being a bit unfair on Meg there, she doesn't start playing until about 35 seconds into the video. Maybe you fast-forwarded to the 30 second segment you didn't like, but I'm going to bet that you didn't0 -
There's another video which is more interesting....
Can't post which sites it's on though.0
