Hi,

I live in Cardiff and normally ride Cwm Afan/Glyncorrwg, Cwm Carn, sections of the Taff trail - they are exellent trails - but to be honest I'm getting a bit bored of doing the same thing now and would like to explore some new routes

Does any one know any good trails within an hour car journey of Cardiff? - I would really like to get out and about on the Brecon Beacons - but I know trails are not signposted & you have to carry maps?

If some one could suggest a good route (start point, length, what I need to carry etc..) I would be eternally grateful 8)

Thanks

  • I have been riding the same routes as yourself this summer and want to try some different stuff.

I have got a number of trail maps from the tourist information office in Brecon, They include The Gap , Mynydd Du forest, Sarn Helen and the Grwyne Fawr Reservoir.

I have not tried any of them as my regular riding buddy has a long term injury, i dont want to try them on my own, for fear of screwing up directions, mis-reading the maps and getting lost.

Here is a link to the site that sells the map packs

alternatively If you want to hook up and try some of the routes, send me a PM, weekdays are better for me but can make weekends sometimes.

there are some great loops around Machen and you have whole of the Beacons with in an hour, You can get a pack with about 20 maps of different trails around the beacons so you are spoilt for choice.

you just need to do a little looking :p
