New jacket, £100 to spend

As the cold, wet and windy weather looms i am looking to buy a new softshell jacket.

Obviously i'd love the Rapha Softshell but need to be realistic.

Ideally should be a soft-shell type that is windproof, waterproof (within reason) and warm.

I've been looking at Endura's 'air defence' and 'windchill' jackets but am wondering if there is anything else similar. They both seem to get good reviews.

Nothing too garish - thanks.

I have a Campag jacket for Absolute Cycles - a bargain and unbelieveably light but still windproof - highly recommended

have a look at Gore bike wear - i've got the gore phantom 2 jacket softshell

i think amazon were selling them off cheaper - £75 ish if memory serves

good jacket, well featured, water resistant good fit love it.
    zip off sleeves if required.

if you google it you might be able to find stores selling last years model off
    cheaper.

I would reccomend the Endura windchill , having used it last 2 winters. The reviews on it are spot on in that it offers warnth and windproof panels allowing for excellent breathability. Water resistance keeps you dry enough abd serves me well on a 20 mile commute.

To clarify the Gore Phantom is designed to be windproof. It is not waterproof but it does a good job of keeping off the rain for a good while and it is breathable. Stick a merino on underneath for colder days.

5 star review here though the photo is of a different Gore jacket

If you decide to buy one try one on for size. They used to come up big in the sizing.

  • Another +1 for Gore Phantom II, with a baselayer or cycling top underneath when necessary.

+++1 for the Gore Phantom - best piece of cycling kit I own and has been pointed out - you can get good deals on them. I think I paid about £60 for mine in a new year sale.

Well I have a blue one which I wear and a grey one I do not wear as I have other team jerseys I use so it has not been used much.
It is classed as a large but I am 5'10" and 12st 3 and it is just right for me. If anyone is over 13st I would think i may be a bit tight :D
If really interested I will take a pic and post it.
  • Another thumbs up for the Gore Phantom. It packs up so small it will fit into almost any jersey back pocket and is somewhat waterproof and breathable as well. Competitively priced also.
