Cold feet

I went out first thing this morning and did 40 miles. perfect weather but my feet got really cold. i think much of it is to do with the big hole thats in my Shimano road shoes just in front of the cleat. Do they make something to plug this hole to make it waterproof and a lot less cold for my feet...or is there something else thats tried and tested? even when i buy some overshoes the hole will still be open to the elements.

If the hole will still be open to the elements even with an overshoe then I can't see any way to cover the hole unfortunately. New road shoes appear to be the only solution......There will be some nice 2011 models out soon
You could try gaffa tape, but it's not ideal.0 -
I used bath sealant to plug the holes in my spds, the rubbery type. Still working (and waterproof) a year later. When it's gone off you can trim any excess.0

This is genius! More problems should be solved by using ones initiative rather than buying more stuff! I will be using bathroom silicone to seal any non waterproof holes in my shoes asap0 -

I mean put mean cellotape over the ventilation hole on the sole, should be enough.Say... That's a nice bike..

Yeah my s-works shoes have holes in the sole for ventilation, last winter I just stuck sellotape over then, seemed to work fine.0

I have the Pearl Izumi version of these - the calien toes. I bought them in an evans sale for about £6 a couple of years back and didn't expect much but they are actually really good!
My shoes, like most road shoes, are designed for a summers day on the Ventoux - not an october downpour in Blackpool - but the litte toe-cover just adds some windproofing to the mesh part at the front of the shoe and makes a massive difference in autumn and early spring. It still won't help too much when it is -0 deg but they really do work!!0
