Finally got enough time to ride one of the big routes at Afan, but which one to ride ? :?

Is W2 just Y Wal and Whites, with a mountain road link ?
And is Skyline mostly closed due to forestry work ?

Yes to the W2 question, still a good long distance ride though, more singletrack than Skyline.

Looks like a couple of sections on Skyline are closed
open - NB Heartburn, Handy Andy and Grand Canyon sections are still closed due to harvesting operations
from the FC site. Vast majority is open.

Depends what sort of ride you want, much more technical singletrack on W2, Skyline is more an all day high altitude ride with some cracking bits of singletrack thrown in. W2 is classic trail centre, SKyline more like a natural ride.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I'd do W2, you even miss out a boring 10 minute fireroad section of the Wall.
  • Do w2, then climb back up at the whites climb and do the last 3 sections of skyline , which are the best there for me..

I have to say, i would do Skyline.

If you have ridden the wall, and whites at some point then you have ridden W2 there is nothing different.

Skyline does have a good bit of firetrack that climb and spins you out but once you get a bit further there are some superb sections of single track in comparison. take some food with and go look at the beacons from the top of Afan valley ;p
