If they do (email them), you'll need original receipts/proof of purchase to claim on a bike of that age.
  • I wouldn't expect CSG to warranty that, 14 years old is likely to be down to fatigue.

If they do warranty it, the modern equivalent will not be compatible with many of the components on your bike, ie front mech clamp/seat clamp/headset etc. You'll also probably need a new set of inner/outer cables, you'll be liable for postage costs and labour to strip your old bike and build the new one (unless you do the work yourself)

When was the last time the bike was serviced? Are the components on it mainly original or have you regularly replaced your chain/cassette/cables/bearings etc as you may need to factor this in as there's no point in fitting knackered old parts onto a nice new frame, and it could end up costing as much as a new bike to fit the modern equivalent parts.

One last point, your contract is with the shop you purchased the bike from, not the distributor, so you really need to take the bike back to the place of purchase for inspection.

    Hope this helps.

I suspect you have had your moneys worth there! would be down to wear and tear now and not manufacturer defect.
  • IMHO it doesn't matter in the slightest if GT sell their bikes with a lifetime warrenty now. If yours came with one when you bought it it should still be covered.

Assuming you haven't done something to cause it like putting on too long forks that is ;)

Really depends on the wording of the warranty. A lot of the titanium frame 'for life' warranties will cover you completely unless you crash etc.

Most warranties will not cover wear and tear. It is worth a try at the end of the day but I think after 14 years that you can pretty much say there was no manufacturer defect and it is due to fatigue which they could argue is wear and tear. Try them and see. They may replace it as you have stuck with it for 14 years.

edit: a quick search suggests that as GT was bought the lifetime warranty may no longer apply. http://www.ridemonkey.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28489
