I think you'll find that they just naturally float to the top.

Because they can pay very well, Ernie a neighbour has a very nice house probably the best in the village etc and he designed and looked after carbon filtration poo pits. I suppose it does change the meaning of cr@p pay

Its ususally the jobs that arn't so great that pay well and the jobs that are great fun pay so badly, for example outdoor instructors.

Someone i know hs worked for local council for 20+ years as environmental officer. Not a great job, £<20K for ratcatching, shovelling up corpses found in houses after 3 weeks, cutting down suicides who have hung themselves etc. Only job he has done since leaving school

It's a misconception that working in the outdoors is as much fun as going out and doing outdoor stuff for yourself, it's just a piss poorly paid industry with ridiculous long working hours that tries to justify it's existence with unnecessary personal development nonsense, and now having spent too long gaining a long list of outdoor quals (just to find I get paid the same as spotty 16yr old) I find all my transferable skills don't transfer to any other job. oops that turned into a bit of a rant

    That's when you would.
  • When I worked for Thames Water (including a few years in Admin at the largest STW in Europe), manual labouring jobs were taken word of mouth. Nearly everyone was related to everyone else (brothers, father/son, son-in-laws and the canteen staff were their wives and mothers) the pay was good and the jobs were secure (everyone shits, even in a recession). The work wasn't hard. An eight hour day was spent getting changed, walking to the part of the site they were working at, work, walking back to the canteen, breakfast, walking to the part of the site they were working at, work, walking back to the canteen, lunch, walking to the part of the site they were working at, work, walking back to the canteen, tea, walking to the part of the site they were working at, work, walking back to the canteen, wash and finish.
One of the leading hands was Reg Varney's brother and the painter was another brother. I suspect that if he hadn't found fame Reg would have been there.

Yep, I know Beckton as well. Fortunately I ony have to visit these sites, I'm not there permenantly ! That said, when I visit, there's usually a flood, so I guess that makes up for the time spent there !!!!

Does he take no lip off nobody and litter from the gutter, put it in his bag and never think to mutter? At least he can look forward to his retirement on a ship called dignity
