Bike recommendations please

Hi all,
A female colleague has asked me for recommendations for a bike topping out at around the £500 mark (I know, its a tough ask).
She is pretty sporty but not comfortable with (the idea of) drops so I showed her a flat bar road bike and she said that looked about right to her. She will probably be a fair weather cyclist so I doubt it needs disc brakes, mudguards etc
I suggested the Giant Rapid 4, but has anyone else got any recommendations?

I dont know much about female bikes but noticed the fi range whilst on the boardman website. As with all boardmans it seems to be a well specced bike for the money.

i've owned a marin mill valley for 2 years and it's a great bike.Mine's the man's version but they do female bikes aswell.I've done 60 miles plus in a day with no problems.
Fast,comfortable and looks the nuts!0 -
Blimey, that had me confused for a while. I thought I had posted a reply to this one but just couldn't see it and it had me totally foxed. Then I went to the Road Beginners section and realised you had posted a carbon copy in that forum0

+1 for the Mill Valley, very good alternative to a road bike. Longer wheelbase gives more stability but still plenty fast enoughBasso Astra
